  • History of the Montauk Point Lighthouse
    The Montauk Point Lighthouse was authorized in 1792, with construction of the sandstone block structure completed in November 1796. The lighthouse is considered the first lighthouse in New York State. In 2012 it was designated a National Historic Landmark. Today, the lighthouse draws hundreds of visitors each year to tour its historic grounds or attend one of the many spectacular weddings set in this picturesque wonder.
  • Montauk Point Lighthouse Museum
    Head to the Keeper’s house and step back in time. The lighthouse museum tour lets visitors explore the oil rooms, parlor, lighthouse keeper’s and assistance’s bedroom, and other lighthouse’s facilities. In the parlor, documents, artifacts, and photographs abound. Don’t miss “The Montauk Lighthouse, Sentinel of Long Island,” video in the South Basement, or climb the 137 iron steps to the watch deck.
